Dear Patio Owner:
I’d like to first welcome you to PatioFurnitureBistroSets.org.
As the name of our site implies, if you’re looking for patio furniture bistro sets, you’ve come to the right place. This site is a great place to start getting some general information about bistro furniture sets. In addition to talking about 3-piece bistro sets (despite what you see in the images above, most bistro furniture sets are three-piece sets), we’ll give you basic descriptions of 3 main types of bistro sets: cast aluminum, wicker, and wrought iron.
Let’s begin.
3-Piece Bistro Sets
As I mentioned above, most bistro sets come in 3 pieces: a bistro table and two matching bistro chairs. Of course, you can add more chairs if you wanted to seat more than two people at once. There are some manufacturers who create additional pieces and accessories to complement the main three-piece sets.
A bistro set that’s designed for outdoor patio use can come in different makes, themes, styles, and types.
As you know, the right bistro set can make for a beautiful addition to your patio. There are many, many different themes and styles to choose from. So many, in fact, that it comes down a combination of personal preference, your budget, the look and feel that you want for your patio, and the availability of the set you want to get.
Below, we’ll explore 3 main types of bistro sets.
Cast Aluminum Bistro Sets
If you’re on a budget, you may find that an aluminum bistro set is good for you. Plastic sets are even more economical than their aluminum counterparts. Cast aluminum bistro sets have the following characteristics:
- Lightweight
- Because cast aluminum usually has a thin layer of aluminum oxide, corrosion and oxidation resistance is very high.
- Cast aluminum bistro sets can, to a certain extent, handle various weather conditions. Having said that, they’re not usually the most durable sets, so it’s not ideal to expect them to handle more extreme weather conditions.
- Aluminum bistro sets are relatively light.
- Generally last longer than plastic bistro furniture sets, but not as long as wicker, wrought iron, and teak wood sets
Wicker Bistro Sets
If you want a more natural look, or you just like wicker furniture, then you might like this type of set. Wicker is a tightly-woven plant fiber. Here are a few characteristics of wicker bistro patio furniture:
- Because it’s tightly-woven, wicker is usually very sturdy and durable.
- Still lightweight enough to move around easily.
- There are 2 types of wicker furniture: natural and synthetic.
Wrought Iron Bistro Sets
Wrought iron has a long history of use as furniture. Here are some characteristics of wrought iron bistro sets:
- Although teak wood sets are usually more expensive, wrought iron bistro sets are also in the higher-price range.
- Wrought iron has a grain that resembles wood.
- Is usually very tough.
- Interesting note: While researching the subject of wrought iron, I was surprised to find out that, according to Wikipedia, wrought iron isn’t actually commercially available anymore…at least in the US. As far as patio and garden furniture is concerned, what’s called wrought iron today is actually a mild steel.
